Natural Cleaning Products are Getting Better

All natural cleaning is really coming into it’s own. More and more people are using vinegar to clean instead of harsher chemicals, and we are talking about it, on blogs, in forums and where ever women talk about cleaning. There is a move towards products that are safer for our families and better for the environment. Heinz, who currently makes more than 7.5 million gallons of vinegar a year for American households has announced it will be making a stronger vinegar. The new product will be 20% stronger than traditional vinegar and still be safe for cooking. This move shows … Continue reading

Safer Nurseries

Is there any more exciting time in your housekeeping journey than setting up a nursery for your first baby? When Hailey was born we could not afford new baby furniture so we found used furniture and cleaned and painted it. Folding all those tiny little clothes and putting them in the dresser was pure joy. One thing I wasn’t aware of then was how many chemicals a baby is exposed to from birth. In order to protect our children we need to be aware of what they are exposed to regularly. Baby furniture can contain formaldehyde. Crib mattresses give off … Continue reading

Cleaning the Bathroom Sink

In this blog we are moving onto the bathroom, probably one of the least favorite places to clean for most anyone. This is definitely one room that you should keep up with on a daily basis. It will not only keep it cleaner but it will be more sanitary. The sink can become one disgusting mess, especially if you have members of the family that don’t clean up after themselves. There is nothing more revolting to me than going to brush my teeth and seeing clumps of dried toothpaste or mustache hair in the sink. So this is an area … Continue reading

Safer Cleaning Products

Cleaning our home safely and with no toxins has become a project of mine. We want to kill the germs and bacteria in order to keep Maggie healthy, but we don’t want the chemicals getting into her lungs and causing her any breathing trouble either. So after her diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, I went on a mission to remove the chemicals and keep the clean. I have to say that my favorite products are by Seventh Generation; however, there are other great companies that offer the cleaning power of regular products without the harshness. In addition, I use hydrogen peroxide … Continue reading

Pregnant women often worry about using household cleaning products. It turns out; there may be reason for this fear. Safe Housekeeping During Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, you may find yourself suddenly motivated to clean more than you usually do. Of course, you may not, and that is also perfectly normal. I never experienced an overwhelming urge to clean house during either of my pregnancies, although I did clean a little more than normal during my second pregnancy. Cleaning during pregnancy is not harmful in and of itself. When the urge to clean strikes, be careful about what products you use to clean, and about some of the chores that you choose to tackle. If you have been bitten by the housekeeping bug, … Continue reading

Give the Gift of a Chemical Free Lifestyle

We could all use a few less chemicals in our homes. A 2009 study showed that newborns come into the world with over 200 chemicals already in their bodies. Wonder how they got there? On a daily basis, we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals – through cleaning products, personal hygiene products, makeup, hair products, plastics and more. And children are the most vulnerable to the side effects of these chemicals because their fragile immune systems can’t fight off the foreign substances. The chemicals found in newborn’s cord blood includ bisphenol A, or BPA, which mimics estrogen and has been … Continue reading
