Babies: The Movie

A couple of years ago, a movie came out that was titled, “Babies”. It is a documentary about just that. Four babies during their first year of life in four very different parts of the world. Japan, Namibia, Mongolia, and San Francisco. When I heard about it, I remembered thinking I wanted to see it, but like everything else, it got put on hold because I just had a baby of my own last year. But, recently, we decided to make it a family event and watch it with all three of our babies. It was fascinating to see the … Continue reading

Living with Dogs Might Improve Baby Health

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a real reason to keep our dogs around our babies? Some people are terrified of the idea, thinking that it’s dangerous to let dogs around small children. At first it’s best never to leave dogs alone with babies, to make sure the animals know to be gentle around them. However, we pet owners know that some dogs are great with babies. There have already been some studies about how being around dogs in the first year of infancy can help reduce the chances of a child later developing allergies to dogs, but what about … Continue reading

What Do You Want To Do

Working from home is realistic for many people, however if you are looking to get rich quick you might be in for a surprise. No one is really making $1,000 a week stuffing envelopes, if they were, no one would work outside the home and we would have an excess of stuffed envelopes. There are many opportunities to work from home. Just do a Google search for work at home or home based business and you will find more information than you can possibly read. There’s a lot of garbage in there, companies that will help you replace your income, … Continue reading

Remember, Babies are People Too

One of the hardest things to realize when you see your new baby is that they are so much more than a baby. They are just a teeny, tiny person. A person that has a personality, likes and dislikes, and traits that are all his own. With the birth of my third child, I have learned this even more. My 3rd looks a lot like my second. Since they are both boys, I find myself calling my 3rd by the name of my 2nd child. But, they are also alike in that they share similar problems with food sensitivities which … Continue reading

Ugly Babies

(The antithesis of an ugly baby.) Have you ever met a mother who thought her baby was anything but beautiful? Sure, there’s that saying: “A face only a mother could love.” Which basically translates to: “You are one ugly…” But really, what mother is going to admit to others that she birthed an ugly child? Thinking it is one thing, but actually hearing your voice release the words into the universe yields an entirely different type of shame. And isn’t there enough Mommy guilt in the world? Ugly babies are not an anomaly. Neither is discussing them. Remember the Seinfeld … Continue reading

Remembering the Boy in the Bubble

David Vetter was also known as the “Bubble Boy”. He was born with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), and had to spend his short life living in a sterile, plastic, “bubble”. There have been improvements in treatment for SCID since then. David Vetter was born in 1971 with a disease called severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). This is a rare, hereditary disease, (that is actually a group of different diseases). According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, there are only 40 to 100 babies in the United States diagnosed with SCID each year. It is caused by a genetic mutation. The … Continue reading

I Would Do It All Again

If you had it to do over again, would you? Raising kids is hard, there is no doubt about it. I remember sometimes thinking if I had really known what this was like, I might have made a different choice. Usually that was when I was walking the floor for the third night in a row with a teething baby or when my teenager seemed to hate me and everything I stand for, but it all worked out. For every moment that you think, “What was I thinking?” there are a million more that let you know there is nothing … Continue reading

What to Do If You Find an Injured Wild Animal

When I was about 10 years old, my best friend and I loved to roam the woods around her house. One day we found an abandoned nest of baby flying squirrels. My friend loved animals and nature even more than I did, so she immediately brought the animals back to her house. She kept these squirrels for about a month, feeding them out of an eyedropper. She lost one or two of the babies, but most of them grew larger and healthy. Then one day the mother of one of our mutual friends called a local wild animal rescue concerning … Continue reading

Double Strollers

When we first had an infant and a toddler at the same time I needed a double stroller. I bought a used Graco DuoGlider off Craig’s List. It served our needs, but I hated that stroller with a fiery passion. When Gemini went to another home I sold the stroller to Once Upon a Child. Almost a year after Pumpkin joined our family Jessie came to live with us too. I knew Jessie was coming so I had time to prepare for having two babies under a year old. I needed a new double stroller. I researched online and test … Continue reading
