A Brief Look at Rick Santorum’s Family Tree

2012 is an election year. I have decided to take a brief look at the family trees of the candidates who are hoping to become the Republican nominee for President. You can learn a lot about a person from taking a look into their family tree. Today, I am focusing on the family tree of Rick Santorum. Rick Santorum was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 through 1995. He represented Pennsylvania’s Eighteenth District. He was also a United States Senator from 1995 through 2007, representing the state of Pennsylvania. Rick Santorum is among the candidates who … Continue reading

Audrey Santo Proved that All Life Has Value

Audrey Santo, widely referred to as Little Audrey, was three-years-old when she fell into the family swimming pool. Rushed to the hospital, Audrey fell into a coma. After three weeks she awoke, but would remain in a condition called Akinetic Mutism. She could not talk and could only make slight movements. The doctors wanted her sent to an institution, but her mother refused. She believed Audrey would receive better care at home. This is a scenario that neither my mind nor heart cannot begin to grasp. How can a parent survive watching their healthy child become a fragile, completely dependent … Continue reading

Update on Bret Michaels and Hugh Hefner Saves the Hollywood Sign

As you have probably heard, former Poison frontman Bret Michaels suffered a painful brain hemorrhage last Thursday and has been in critical condition every since. His rep today said that while he remains in critical condition, he is stable, but he got another health setback today. He has been diagnosed with hypoatremia, a lack of sodium in his body that can cause seizures. Michaels’ rep declined to say whether the rocker had actually suffered any seizures or not. The doctors continue to run tests, trying to find the cause of the bleeding at the stem of his brain. Some are … Continue reading

Turkeys: “We’re Going to Disneyland!”

Thanksgiving is an all-American tradition, full of family, turkey, cranberry sauce, parades, floats, and the blissful tryptophan-induced nap we all sink into at the end of the evening. New traditions are added to the holiday all the time, such as the Presidential Turkey Pardon. Since 2005 another all-American tradition has been added: a trip to Disneyland. When President Obama pardons two turkeys today the birds will then fly to Disneyland in California to serve as honorary Grand Marshals of the Disney Thanksgiving Day Parade. Afterward they will retire to the Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland’s Frontierland. Some claim the presidential … Continue reading

An Intro and An Update

I am so excited to finally be back and writing for Families.com. It has been almost a year since I took a leave of absence in order to work to get my children’s adoptions completed and get them home. I was so grateful to the Families.com management team for understanding and for their offer that I could come back when I was ready. Well, I’m finally ready and boy do I have an adoption story for you! I will start sharing that tomorrow so make sure you check back. In the meantime, let me introduce myself again partly because I … Continue reading

Final Thoughts on the Breastfeeding/IQ Controversy

The internet is abuzz with controversy this week after a new study was released last week claiming that breastfeeding only makes babies smarter if they are already genetically predisposition to be smarter. One article, published by Newsweek implies that perhaps we won’t all be breastfeeding as much now that we all know it won’t make our kids smarter unless they have the gene for it. The unsaid conclusion is that breast milk and formula are equal. All I can say is give me a break! What I find interesting is that no one ever mentions exactly why all these studies … Continue reading
