Mickey Mouse is Back: New Shorts to Air on TV

Mickey Mouse is back.  Whether this is the reinvention that Disney execs promised years ago remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Disney’s most famous character is going to be a star yet again.  Mickey’s returning to his roots, in a series of animated shorts to debut on the Disney Channel and Disney Online this June.  Entertainment Weekly has the details. Disney Television Animation has been hard at work creating 19 new shorts starring the famous mouse, his girlfriend Minnie, and surely many of his other most popular cohorts, all to reintroduce Mickey to fans young and old.  … Continue reading

Whether you are lucky enough to have found a blogging job, you have your own blog just for fun, or both, once you start blogging you must continually come up with new content that keeps your readers coming back for more. Sometimes, it is easy. You go about your day and then when it is time to sit down at your computer and write, you recall something that you saw or did that day which just so happens to be excellent fodder for a blog post. Simple Chinese New Year’s Fun

Ear-numbing firecrackers, amazing noodle dishes and feeding crisp dollar bills to dancing lions; these are three things I remember most about celebrating Chinese New Year in my hometown of Hilo, Hawaii. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to ring in the start of the Chinese lunar calendar in paradise this year. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t be having fun ushering in the Year of the Dragon. This January 23rd, grab the kids, don your most festive red outfits and wish each other a hearty “Xin Nian Kuai Le.” Then, raid your craft closet to make these simple Chinese New Year … Continue reading

Tangled Ever After

I don’t know how in all of my reading reports from D23 I managed to miss this piece of news. I guess I was just so excited about the newly announced Pixar films and spoilers from “The Avengers” that this slipped through the cracks. Then one day while reading on animation website Cartoon Brew I learned that at the con, Disney also announced plans for another “Tangled” movie. When I first read about “Tangled Ever After,” I was so excited by the prospect of getting to return to this world that what the announcement really meant completely escaped me. But … Continue reading

Move Over Poker, There’s A New Card Game In Town

Today I came across a genealogy game that looks like it could be both fun and educational at the same time. Six Generations is a game that consists of a deck of seventy-two cards. The game may be played with or without a game board and six-sided dice, and it is designed for use by players age six to adult in groups of two or more. The cards for this game are beautifully illustrated. The illustrations on the cards depict people from America and many European nations, who were born in different time periods. Each character has his or her … Continue reading

A Strangely Tangled Family Tree

Every human civilization that has ever existed, or that currently exists today, has it’s own social rules. All cultures will clearly state rules, or even make laws, that define who it is acceptable for a person to marry, and to have children with. So, when you read about a situation when an adult woman and her long lost father choose to have a baby together, it makes one very uncomfortable. The kinship terms that apply to this baby make for a very tangled family tree. I’m not entirely certain if this particular situation could be legally defined as a case … Continue reading

Disney’s Back with “Tangled”

The original Rapunzel has little voice. Her own story is named for her, but she has next to no agency within it. Her prince doesn’t fair much better; like many princes in fairy tales though he has a bit more control over his destiny he doesn’t appear important enough to earn his own name. “Tangled” changes all of that. Disney’s latest movie, which has the distinction of being the 50th full-length animated film to come from the House of Mouse, is probably not the first to deepen the characters of the Rapunzel myth’s two leads. But it’s the best I’ve … Continue reading

Holiday Travel: Good News, Bad News

Unless you are independently wealthy or you just won that huge Powerball jackpot, then you’re probably not going to be happy with what the airline industry is offering in the way of holiday fares. The bad news: According to new reports, holiday fares are averaging about 10 to 20 percent more this year than last. What’s more, you will be battling more people for fewer seats now that most major airlines have reduced the number of routes they are flying in response to the economic crisis. More bad news: “Peak travel surcharges,” the dreaded three-word phrase coupled with the litany … Continue reading

Try a New Scrapbook Look Using Black and White Photos

If you were to take a look through my scrapbooks you would see a lot of color. The album itself, the pictures inside, the paper and embellishments all scream color. I’m sure this is true for most scrapbookers. We tend to really like color. Recently I have been thinking of doing something a little different. I really appreciate the look and beauty of black and white photos. Black and white photos are simple but sophisticated. They have an elegance to them that is very unique. A black and white photo scrapbook would definitely be something very different. It would be … Continue reading
